Dr Rajkumar - Remembered through songs Part 4

Image
This is the concluding post of the blog. In the earlier posts, we covered songs from movies of the follow genres - Devotional, Mythological, Historical, Social Relevance, Social Drama, Musical and Romantic.  If you have missed the first 3 parts, you can read it  here . Before we start covering the songs in this post, I want to acknowledge the people behind the scenes who helped create such great music, whether it is the song writers, the music directors, the film directors and the singers. Of course, there are several unnamed people here who actually played the music such as the orchestra, the chorus singers, etc.  A lot of songs were also based on lyrics written by Kannada poets(Kuvempu for example) and philosophers/composers such as Purandara Dasa/Kanakadasa. Again, this is huge list given the number of movies Dr Raj acted in. I have selected a few based on what I know. Playback Singers : Dr Rajkumar, Dr PB Srinivas, S Janaki, Vani Jayaram, P Susheela, G...

This is the third post in the blog. In the earlier posts, we covered songs from movies of the follow genres - Devotional, Mythological, Historical, Social Relevance, Social Drama.  If you have missed the first 2 parts, you can read it here . Some of these actors (specially Narasimharaju had some songs for himself in the movies and were laugh riots. I have included one song "Y aaru Yaaru nee yaaru " in the playlist at the start below).  ...

In part 1, we covered songs from Devotional and Mythological movies.  If you have missed part one, please read it  here I have updated the chart below  with selection of movies for this post. We will be going through the songs from movies of the Historical, Social Relevance and Social Drama genre. Dr Rajkumar - Selected Movies by Genre Ithihaasika(Historical Movies) There are numerous historical  movies which Dr Raj acted in.  There are a lot more historical movies Dr Raj acted in but my selections above are based on the iconic songs and performance in these movies. From what I remember, Dr Raj played a minor role as Chenamma's husband in Kittur Rani Chenamma(which had an outstanding performance from Sri Saroja Devi) and he played Pulakeshi the chalukya king in Immadi Pulakeshi. Dr Raj played Mayura Varma in Mayura , the first kannadiga king of the Kadamba dynasty. The movie tracks his rise from a sim...

Dr Rajkumar   was(and in our hearts always is) a legendary Indian film actor. He is widely acclaimed as one of the finest actors in the history of  Indian cinema . Most actors are known for acting in one genre and doing a great job whereas Dr Rajkumar acted in almost all genres which one can think of and lived the characters roles to the extent that for a lot of us, certain characters bring back only his visuals. Dr Raj(as we will refer to him from now on) acted in several genres of movies and made his mark in each of them. There are several articles written about him, his acting skills and his singing skills. Yes, Dr Raj was a wonderful singer, who could sing even classical songs with ease due to his theatre background and is probably the only actor-singer to have won National awards for both acting and singing. On the eve of his 91 st birth anniversary, I was trying to recollect as a fan, how music and songs were such an essential part of his movies and de...
